Business OpportunitiesI live in Murphy, NC, a wonderful place if you don't have to earn a living here. For various reasons that I've discussed elsewhere, I love working at home and I currently earn all my income while working at home in my bedroom using my favorite Macintosh computer and the Internet. I live about 100 miles from the nearest city and about 50 miles from the nearest traffic jam! In fact, Murphy is much closer to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park than to any large towns. I love the peace and quiet, and still being able to earn a living from the comfort of a small cabin in the mountains. With modern technology and the changing world of selling, it is possible for just about anyone to earn extra income or a full-time income from home. With dedicated effort and a bit of luck, you have the potential to earn much more than you ever thought possible! (Most people, however, don't achieve those levels of income, just as most people never reach those levels of income in other forms of business. The potential is there and the opportunity is open to you, if you want to reach for it. Just be aware before you start that all marketing takes effort and creativity. Most people who try their hand at affiliate marketing, especially, quit before they learn how to make it work and, consequently, never earn anything.) Currently, I'm earning my living through affiliate sales and selling promotional products. With all the spam and advertising with which you are bombarded, it's easy to learn to hate anything related to business opportunities. There are so many clueless people out there who want to earn more money but who take the easy way and try to get rich quick. It doesn't work that way. You might get rich quick playing the lottery, but the odds are very much against you, and the odds are much more against you if you use those methods to try to build a business. On the other hand, you can earn a decent income -- and some of you may get rich -- by building a home business and selling services and products that offer excellent value to your clients and customers. It won't happen overnight unless you are extremely lucky or you already have a customer base. For the rest of us, it takes years to learn what we're doing, devise a plan for our particular niche, and then build our business. It's never a steady curve upwards, either. There are always downturns, set-backs, and things that change and completely disrupt your business plan. If you need money right now, building a home business may not be for you. It will take months before you'll achieve any significant levels of income. If you need money now, you may be much better off finding a job. But, once you have the income you need, then it's time to turn your attention to building a business on the side. If you want to escape the rat race, have more time for yourself and your family, chart your course for the future, and build your own home business, you can do it. There are things you'll have to learn. You'll have to learn how to sell on the Internet. You'll have to learn what not to do. You'll make mistakes, and each mistake--as long as you learn from it--will take you one step closer to succeeding. You can do it. The easiest way to do this is to affiliate with one or more companies and individuals who are already doing it. Learn from someone who is already doing what you want to do; that person will be your mentor and will help you get there quicker and easier. Learn how to build a system that functions even when you aren't working. That's a real business. Don't pay too much attention to all the cynics and naysayers who will tell you that you're crazy. Sure, you'll have a lot of rejections and lots of people will not be interested in what you're doing. But, each rejection and failure leads you one more step closer to success. With persistence, and the application of what you learn, you'll get there if you don't quit. A lot of what you already know doesn't work with affiliate marketing. You'll have to let go of some of your preconceived notions and learn what does work. And, please, don't take the low road. Don't spam. Don't bother your friends and neighbors. There are too many opportunities and people who are looking for what you can offer to bother people who aren't interested. Learn to cast your net wide. Promote yourself and your products. Keep in touch with your customers and provide the very best service you can. These are the routes that lead to success. And, when you succeed, give something back to your community. Give some of your time and money to help others. We all succeed by helping others succeed. If you're not willing to invest the time and effort to improve yourself and learn the skills and techniques necessary to build a business, don't even bother starting. It's not easy and it takes time. If you're not willing to do this, go watch a movie or play a video game. However, if you're willing to work, you can build a future where you have more control over what happens to you. You may not get rich -- and perhaps that's not what you're looking for -- but you can gain more control over your time, your finances, and your future. That's worth working for. I don't pretend to be either rich nor an expert. However, I'm earning more each year and I'm learning more each day. One day I expect to be both. I'm already completely debt-free and I no longer own an alarm clock. As Robert T. Kiyosaki says in his books, "First, you have to learn to live within your means. Then, you have to increase your means." I've managed to do the first part of that and now I'm working every day to accomplish the second part. Take a moment and ask yourself some questions. What have you done in the last month to get you closer to living the lifestyle you eventually want to live? What have you done in the last week? What will you do today? Are you better off now than you were one year ago? You can't change what you didn't do in the past. You can't live on what you hope for in the future. You only have now! Right now, not in the past or the future, you can do something that has the potential to change your life. What are you going to do now?
