My Book History

Almost all of my Dilbeck info is on William Willis Dilbeck b. app. 1805 in NC. He was the youngest of the five brothers that moved to what is now Dawson Co., GA [see Dilbecks of Dawson County]. My husband, Willie Franklin Dilbeck (1913-1991) was his grandson. My husband was the youngest child of Batis Dilbeck [William Batis Dilbeck] who was the youngest child (and only child of the 2nd. Marriage) of William W. Dilbeck.

Starting in 1975, I obtained the information on Wm. Batis Dilbeck's family (and some on William Willis Dilbeck) from my husband and other living relatives. I shared my information and essays with Marvis Dilbeck, Barbara Dilbeck, and Mary Brown (the John Line). They have collected information on all the Dilbecks to write a book. In June 1991, Barbara and Mary gave me their note books of information on William Willis' children of his first marriage to sort, compile, and enter into my HyperCard Genealogy computer program.

I found 1900 Census records a few days before we moved to NC in 1975. An assistant in the Federal Achives in East Point, GA found "Dilbecks" for me using the Soundex system. I had never seen a census record until then. Barbara Dilbeck of Lilburn, GA had called me a few weeks earlier to see where our family fit on the family tree. I had no Dilbeck records and hand copied all I could find n the two afternoons I was at the Archives.

Marvis Dilbeck, Barbara Dilbeck, and Mary Brown and I shared information, especially on the William Willis Dilbeck Line. I searched census records in the Murphy Library until the inter-library loans were discontinued. Our many trips to Atlanta, gave me some time to seek information in the court house in Dawsonville , GA. Rebekah Wilson gave me access to her many family files before she died in 1991. Bill drove me to visit his relatives in Tennessee and Georgia and to libraries in Dahlonega, Ellijay, and Young Harris, GA until he died on July 9, 1991.

Norma Jean Dibeck Gruenhagen has sent me missing pieces on the Willim Willis Line that she found as she searched her David Line.

My husband died on July 9, 1991, and I did not finish this until March of 1992.

The following people are listed in the Dilbeck Family Report, prepared by Mattie Lee Godfrey Dilbeck. In this book, she has compiled information about descendents of William Willis Dilbeck. She has spent over 25 years researching this (long before the Internet made it so much easier!). In 1992, she published a book that was available in limited quantities because each was individually copied and collated. This resulted in a price of $40.00 per book, which barely covered the expenses.

My name is John Dilbeck, and I'm her son. Now, I have the tools to convert this Dilbeck Family Report into an Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (.pdf) file, and I've recently done that for her.

Mom would like to make this available to as many people as may be interested, but she'd like to recoup some of the expenses of preparing it and be able to afford more research on her families. Since there are no printing costs involved, nor shipping, Mom's decided to make this Report available for $10.00 per copy. This version of the Report should be viewable on any type of computer that has a Acrobat or Compatible viewer program, and that includes Windows, Macintosh, and most versions of Unix, at least.

Please note that there is not a lot known about some of the people in the book, but she compiled everything she could find. Some of that information, but only a small part of it, is on this website.

One of the real advantages of the e-book version is the ability to search it electronically, something that didn't exist in the printed version. The list below is what served as an Index in the printed version, and I've done my best to make sure the page numbers correspond in this electronic version, as well.
