ELBERT CISNEY GODFREY (1) (1861-1929), born April 16, 1861 in Coal Mountain District, Forsyth County, Georgia, died March 24, 1929, Gainesville, Hall Co., Georgia, married November 29, 1883 in Dawson County, Georgia to Martha Carolyn Rives (Mattie) , born December 8, 1861 in Dawson County, Georgia, died November 29, 1941 in Atlanta, Georgia. Both are buried in Alta Vista Cemetary, Gainesville, Hall Co., Georgia.

Elbert Cisney Godfrey's father was William L. Godfrey (2) (1829 - 1865), who was a Civil War Veteran and was killed in action in Virginia. Elbert Cisney's mother was Caroline Bennett (2) (1837 - 1926). She was born in Forsyth County, GA, and died in Dawson County, GA.

Mattie Lee Godfrey Dilbeck says, "My father, (7) "Lee Elbert Godfrey" moved to Gainesville, GA before I was born on November 6, 1920. He was a Street Car Operator until the line stopped , then ran a Grocery Store on Myrtle Street. Lee moved to Atlanta in 1933 and died there in 1985.
"Elbert and Mattie Rives Godfrey, moved fron their farm to Gainesville in the mid-1920's. Elbert died March 24, 1929. Royston and Stella then lived with Mattie until her home was destroyed in the 1936 tornado. Mattie then, "took turns" living with her children until her death in 1941. (Royston and Stella remained in Gainesville many more years)."
